It all starts with community…
As part of the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Strategy 2030, we are seeking to mobilise communities across Scotland to take action for nature in an increasingly diverse, collective effort in which everyone can play their part.
Between 2022-2024, we delivered the Nextdoor Nature project in Scotland, bringing communities together to help nature flourish where they live and work. This UK-wide initiative was made possible thanks to £5million funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund as a lasting natural legacy in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Through this project, we were able to develop and deliver the Nextdoor Nature Pioneers Programme to over 30 community leaders in Scotland. Involving a combination of online learning, interactive webinars and in-person events, this free skills development course aims to provide participants with the understanding, resources and confidence they need to be able to organise action for nature where they live.
This community action website is also as a result of this project. We believe that everyone has the power to make a positive impact on the natural environment where they live. The site serves as a source of inspiration and resources for those passionate about preserving and enhancing the natural world around them. Through compelling stories and practical tips, we aim to ignite a sense of stewardship and responsibility for the planet.
Whether you’re a seasoned environmentalist or just starting out on your journey to protect nature, you’ll find valuable information, inspiration and resources.
The community stories presented on this site serve to highlight real-life examples of organisations, community groups and people that have made a significant difference for nature in their communities. They serve as beacons of inspiration, demonstrating what’s possible when individuals and groups come together with a shared vision for a healthier planet. Join us in our mission to create greener, more vibrant communities where people and nature thrive together.
Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.
