Quality change
Save Our Shore, Leith (SOS Leith) is an informal group of local residents who have joined together to make a change. After seeing the amount of sewage and litter that was washed down the Waters of Leith, a handful of locals decided to do something about it.
Several years later and the group have gone from strength to strength. They have worked with their local MSP and have created agreements with local landowners around the water quality.
Community power
Despite their humble beginnings, SOS Leith are working tirelessly to make a change. The group came about after several residents noticed the concerning amount of litter and sewage appearing in the Waters of Leith. Surrounded by residential areas, waterside bar seating and frequented by locals, there were immediate safety concerns about the declining water quality. There were also concerns about the impact of the pollution on the resident wildlife.
After contact with local landowners led to a frustrating lack of action, the group decided to ramp up their efforts. Through hours of research and campaigning, SOS Leith have made real progress. They have worked with their local MSP and have developed agreements with a number of landowners along the Waters of Leith.
Listen to the inspiring story of how a handful of locals have challenged national companies and are campaigning for change for both people and wildlife.
